If you have visited the Main Building of Klingberg Family Centers in New Britain this month, you were likely surprised by the bare walls and floors and the sights and sounds of construction. These are the signs of the development of the Klingberg Nexus Professional Development Center.
Over the past several years Klingberg has dramatically expanded its training and professional development capacities. The Klingberg Nexus Professional Development Center will be a central location through which we can share these training resources with other members of the professional and public community. We will also make meeting and conference space available to other community organizations, as well as DCF and other state agencies. The center will provide much-needed resources to professionals and the public, generate new income for Klingberg, and provide new opportunities for our staff to share their expertise with others.
In the fall we began meeting with a team of Central Connecticut State University business and marketing faculty and students to assist us in developing a marketing plan. As a first step, they generated several suggested names for the center, including the Klingberg Nexus Professional Development Center, which was selected. We continue to meet with them to develop the marketing plan, including the development of a brochure.
Major renovations to the Main Building meeting rooms, kitchen, and bathrooms were completed last year, following an expansion of parking capacity to accommodate an influx of outside meeting and training attendees. Last summer we successfully pursued foundation and state bond funding to pay for the remaining modifications to the Main Building. These include relocating offices from the center of the building to the former Girls’ Unit to create break-out rooms, redecorating all of the conference space (e.g., installing new carpeting, painting walls, etc.), purchasing and installing state-of-the-art electronics, and improving security and accessibility. These renovations are well under way, and we expect to open the Klingberg Nexus this spring!
